Year-to-year, generally around the beginning of March, the Skagit Valley "pops" with color. Covering 1,000's of acres, tulips, daffodils and iris flowers blanket the valley from La Connor to Mt. Vernon. Millions of bulbs are planted in Skagit Valley, producing more tulips than any other place in the world......including Holland.
This image was captured on a cool morning in March. I had originally planned to shoot sunrise looking northeast, towards Mt. Baker. My hope was to capture some colorful high clouds with the peak of Mt. Baker casting an orangish/pink hue (hey......ya gotta have hope, right?). As is the case in many of my excursions, I rarely come away with the image I had "pre-arranged" in my mind.
Clouds obscured the peak of Mt. Baker. Instead, I turned to the west and noticed soft "whispy" clouds hovering behind another field of daffodils. I walked across the street and noticed a red barn nestled in the southeast corner of the field. The mix of yellow flowers and a bluish/pink sky, nicely compliment the striking red color of this barn.
What speaks to me most about the image is the peaceful, calm feeling it emotes.
