While hiking along the waterfront at Deception Pass State Park (West Beach area), I noticed this small cove, some 20 feet below the rocks where I was standing. I imagined how beautiful the water might look captured as a slow exposure, flowing over the pointed rock in the foreground. Knowing the image would require a high tide (the waterline wasn't close enough to shore during low tide), I researched tide tables and sunset times, trying to determine a day/time when the 2 might coincide
I spent 3 evenings (about 2 hours each night) watching the sunset and the incoming tide blanket itself over, against and around the rock and small cliffs to each side. Honestly, I could have spent a week - it was mesmerizing.
After reviewing the images, I gravitated towards developing this particular image for a couple of reasons. I wanted a shot of the water flowing over the smaller, pointed rock, while at the same time covering the rock wall to the left. The fact I was able to also capture an orange glow from the sky reflecting in numerous areas of the water was a nice bonus.
