This small stretch of Pismo Beach holds special meaning for my sisters-in-law (Kim & Karen) and my brother-in-law Keith. It also happens to be my Mom's favorite place to vacation.
Standing on the balcony of my hotel room, I watched the sun move behind this bank of clouds. Knowing the opportunity to capture a sunset would be short-lived, I grabbed my gear, raced to the beach and knelt in the surf to shoot a long-exposure. As the sun dipped below the horizon, I watched the backlit the clouds explode into a brilliant orange hue.
While developing the final image, my memory brought me back two years prior, as a school of dolphins swam by this stretch of water just after my sister-in-law and her siblings released their mother's ashes to the sea.
