It was a frosty April morning and I left Seattle at 3 am, headed north for Mt. Vernon. My intent was to capture the full moon setting behind the Olympic mountains, with a field of tulips in the foreground. After setting up for the shot, a bank of clouds moved in, obscured the moon and crushed any chance of capturing a worthy image (or so I thought........). Instead of heading back to my truck, I picked up my gear and walked a few hundred yards in search of another field. I turned to the east, set up my tripod and crossed my fingers for a nice sunrise. Some 20 minutes later, the horizon began to display this brilliant orange glow. I composed a field of red tulips into the shot and was pleasantly surprised how well they balanced with the orange and blue colors of the sky. As the sun began to peek over the horizon, it cast this amazing light across the tulip petals, making for a shot I never really expected to get. Mother Nature..........she rarely disappoints !
